High Stakes starts a little like this.....
High Stakes started in May of 2000. i ran into dave at a big d and the kids table show in boston, I met him a few months earlyer at a party. the dumb shit had no ride home so i told him i would give him one.(not really wanting to) on the way home he talked about geting a ska band together and just haveing some fun. later that week he called me up (i dont really know how he got my number). he wanted me to play trombone in the band i said i really dont know how to but i had a trombone and thats all he cared about. i asked him if i could do the vocals as well. we still needed a guitar i told him i could find one. The day of band practice I asked Chris if he would come to band practice. Chris did not like me at all and he was already in a band but he decided to go. I met Jeff for the first time and Dave met Chris for the first time as well as andy who played trumpet. we set up and started playing Dave showed Chris how to play ska this was hard for Chris because he is not use to playing something so simple. Andy did not know what he was doing and decided to leave. We wrote one song that day and it was bad. we practiced 2 days a week for a month before our first show in Marshfield it was a battle of the bands we won second place.
After a few shows....
We played Marshfield, Natic, Pembroke (my home town)New bedford,Lowell, Plastow, Cambridge a few times with some cool bands. The sellouts, Kicked in the head, The Goonies, Mission 120, 3 spoon production, up the anti, Blind Luck, T.I.P. and a bunch more. we sucked! the ska music thing was fun but it was not us. we ran into some problems decided to get rid of all our old songs and starting over. write some music more complex and in your face NON-STOP ROCK! so we did and it was good. we played some more shows with some more cool bands and rocked. On february 10th 2002 High Stakes recorded a 6 song EP.
